Abstinence for folks with compulsive eating disorders is a very hard thing to define.

Each person has to decide what their own individual abstinence is. They make a plan of eating that they works for them.

Some groups define abstinence as a "positive change in an eating pattern".

Another description that is kind of cute is the "301 Plan" - 3 meals a day, nothing in between, one day at a time.

Others avoid sugars and starches. Many compulsive eaters are sugar addicts. Even diet drinks that are touted as sugar free may be avoided as sweeteners were originally developed as appetite enhancers for diabetics.

Almost all recovering compulsive eaters make an effort to avoid their binge foods.
